Quase não escrevo sobre musica, mas hoje eu tenho que escrever. Esse album novo da Aretha Franklin é algo espetacular. Só o fato de ser Aretha, já seria, mas a seleção musical, os arranjos, tudo! Perfeito. Ela se reiventando mas sendo ela mesma.

O projeto conta com músicas de outras cantoras e o que me impressiona é que muitas delas iniciaram suas carreiras influenciadas pela diva maior. E essa diva agora resolve dar o troco, cantando suas músicas, mas mostrando que é mesmo uma referência muito superior a elas. O disco é R&B na sua essência, com balanços dançantes, baladas românticas e musicas que nos fazem sacudir os ossos. Muito bom.

Destaco aqui os jams em "Rolling in The Deep", em que ela mistura "Ain't No Mountain High" e transforma numa batida que faz tremer as paredes. O mesmo acontece com "I Will Survive", que começa lenta, com um piano ao fundo e se transforma numa versão explosiva, puro groove quando se mistura com "Survivor" das Destiny's Child e dá vontade de arredar os móveis para dançar na sala. Nessa mesma vibe está "I'm Every Woman" que ganha a cara de Aretha com os acordes de "Respect" e arrebenta com os alto-falantes.

"No One" se transorma num reggae, que nos força a fechar os olhos e ser levados pela batida...

"Nothing Compares 2 U" vira R&B na veia! Nem parece aquela choradeira da carequinha de lindos olhos claros chorando no clipe que passou no Fantástico e repetiu dezenas de vezes na MTV... e que eu amava!

"People", que tem também uma versão recente de Barbra Streisand em dueto com Stevie Wonder é uma das músicas lentas do disco. Nessa mesma frequencia está "At Last" e "Teach Me Tonight", aquelas versões clássicas com orquestra, que nos levam para uma década em que nem éramos nascidos (bom, quer dizer... não sei, hehehe).

Enfim, um album imperdível que vale a pena deixar rolando no repeat...

I rarely write about music, but today I MUST do it. This new Aretha Franklin's album is something spectacular. Just the fact of being Aretha already mean it, but the musical selection, arrangements, everything! Perfect. She's reinventing but still being herself.

The project features songs from other singers and what impresses me is that many of them began their careers influenced by this bigger Diva. And now she pays back, singing their classics, but showing that is even far superior when compared to them. The disc is R&B in essence, with dancing swings, romantic ballads and songs that make us shake the bones. Very good!

I highlight here the jams in "Rolling in The Deep", mixed with "Ain't No Mountain High". The mixture turns into a hit that is shaking the walls. The same is true for "I Will Survive", which begins slowly, with a piano in the background and becomes a explosive version, pure groove when mixed with "Survivor" from Destiny's Child. That makes me want to lift the furniture to dance in the living room. That same vibe is "I'm Every Woman" which is pure Aretha with the chords of "Respect" and really messes with your speakers.

"No One" turns into a reggae beat, which forces us to close our eyes and be transported by the beat ...

"Nothing Compares 2 U" turns into R&B in vein! It doesn't even seem that whining of the gorgeous baldy and of blue eyed girl crying in the videoclip that ran repeated dozens of times on MTV ... and I used to love!

"People", which also has a recent version from Barbra Streisand in Duet with Stevie Wonder is one of the ballad songs on the disc. On the same frequency is "At Last" and "Teach Me Tonight", those classic versions with Orchestra, that take us to a decade in which we were not even born (well, I mean ... I don't know, hehehe).

Anyway, an unmissable album worth leaving rolling on repeat...
